Oversized graphic T-shirts are one of the most versatile pieces in a streetwear wardrobe — but they’re also easy to get wrong. Here’s how to wear them well.
The Core Principle: Let the Tee Lead
An oversized graphic T-shirt is a statement piece. The graphic is the focal point. Everything else in the outfit should support it, not compete with it. Keep the rest of the look clean, simple, and intentional.
Bottoms
Wide-Leg Cargos
The best pairing for an oversized tee. Wide-leg cargos extend the relaxed silhouette from top to bottom and add utility detail without distracting from the graphic. Go for neutral tones — black, olive, beige, or grey.
Baggy Denim
Straight-leg or wide-leg denim in a relaxed fit works well. Avoid slim or tapered jeans — they break the oversized silhouette and make the outfit look unbalanced.
Relaxed Joggers
For a more casual look, relaxed joggers in a matching or neutral tone keep the outfit cohesive. Avoid tight-fitting joggers — same reason as slim jeans.
What to Avoid
Slim fit anything. Chinos. Formal trousers. These create a visual disconnect with the oversized top and make the outfit look accidental rather than intentional.
Footwear
Chunky Sneakers
The default choice. Chunky soles add visual weight at the bottom that balances the volume of the oversized tee. White, black, or neutral colourways work with almost everything.
Boots
Combat boots or chunky leather boots add an edge to the look. Works especially well with the Alter Ego collection’s more confrontational graphics.
Slides
For a relaxed, off-duty look. Keep them clean and minimal.
Layering
Open Overshirt
An open overshirt or flannel worn loose over the tee extends the look into cooler weather without covering the graphic entirely. Leave it unbuttoned and let the tee show through.
Bomber Jacket
A clean bomber jacket over an oversized tee works well for evenings. Keep the jacket simple — solid colour, minimal branding — so the graphic underneath remains the focus.
What to Avoid
Anything that fully covers the graphic defeats the purpose. Avoid zipped-up hoodies or jackets worn closed over graphic tees.
Tuck or No Tuck?
For oversized graphic tees, a front tuck — tucking just the front hem into your waistband — works well with wide-leg trousers and adds structure to the silhouette. A full tuck kills the oversized look entirely. Leave the back untucked.
Sizing
If you’re between sizes, size down on oversized tees. The drop-shoulder cut means even a smaller size will give you the relaxed fit — and it’ll sit better on your frame without looking shapeless.
Colour Coordination
Most graphic tees have a dominant colour in the artwork. Pull one of those colours into your bottoms or footwear for a cohesive look. It doesn’t need to match exactly — just complement.
For black and white graphics (like most of the State of Mind collection), almost any neutral bottom works. For colour graphics, keep the rest of the outfit more restrained.
